Sailing Venue

Location : London   |   Status : Completed   |   Sector : London 2012, Sport

Description
Richard Arnold was the Project Sponsor with the Olympic Delivery Authority for the development and delivery of the enhancements to the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, which formed the venue for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Sailing Venue.

Weymouth and Portland already had world-class sailing facilities, but some enhancements were required to ensure the venue was suitable for the Olympic Sailing completion. The improvements to the existing facilities at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) included a new permanent 250m slipway used for launching and landing boats and 70 new moorings.

Additionally the ODA’s works helped to facilitate the development of a new commercial 560-berth marina that was built adjacent to the sailing academy and which enabled 250 of these berths to be used during the Games.

The project was completed in late 2008, the first London 2012 sporting venue to be finished, delivering an early legacy for elite athletes and the local community more than three years before the Games.
